January Layout Guest Designer

With another New Year, we have another great bunch of guest designers lined up at Sketch-N-Scrap. Starting us off this year is Ashley

I'm Ashley and I'm so excited to be a guest designer at Sketch N Scrap! I'm a huge fan and play along as often as I can, although I tend to use the sketches as a starting point for my layouts. Sometimes I change the size to 8.5x11 and decrease the number of photos and sometimes I use the 12x12 size but turn the sketch on its side. My day job is a registered nurse. It's actually a night job and I've been doing it for six years. My boyfriend is an attorney and we rescued a black Lab, Bentley, who is a handful and always keeps us on our toes. Thanks for this opportunity!

And Ashley did crop our sketch to fit a 8.5x11" layout. Showing the versatility of the sketches. I absolutely love the vintage vibe to this layout, with the photos and papers chosen.  How fun! Thanks Ashley!

Check back on the 6th for our first Card Guest Designer of the year!

Sketch N Scrap #48

Happy New Year Scrappy friends!  We are looking forward to another year of crafty inspiration here at Sketch N Scrap!  Here is our very first layout sketch for 2014:
Sketch by Lisa:

And here is what our amazing design team came up with:

We have an amazing sponsor to kick off the New Year!  January's sponsor is Skyline Paperie!  Stephanie Ho is the owner and one of our very own Design Team members!  Stephanie opened Skyline Paperie this past December and is offering up a wonderful prize full of crafty goodies to one randomly selected winner!  Here is a little bit about Stephanie:
I am a quintessential city girl. I love the hustle and bustle of life among the skyscrapers. I don’t mind our tiny apartment because I believe love grows best in small places. I love the fact that no matter where I am, I'm never more than 5 minutes from a coffee shop. City life inspires me and has played a huge role in my shaping my creative philosophy. I'm living proof that you don't need a spacious studio to create meaningful works of art.  In addition to being an avid scrapbooker, card maker and crafter, I am also a wannabe chef, a book hoarder, an aspiring world traveler, a nail polish collector, a latte drinker and a cupcake connoisseur. I'm constantly singing and I'm confident I could easily bring home the million dollar prize on Don't Forget the Lyrics. I have a deep faith in God and am continually amazed at His unfailing love and abounding grace. I believe everyone has a story worth telling and I’m excited to help you share yours! So go ahead and grab your photos, a pen, a glue stick and a handful of glitter and let’s get busy!
How amazing is this????  Stop by Skyline Paperie and grab a bunch of these wonderful goodies to use on your next project today! It's easy to play along with us:

Would You Rather?????

I hope you are enjoying our crop so far! What a fun recipe challenge by Kelly yesterday!  If you missed it you can find it HERE.  It might be pretty apparent that I like playing games, from Bingo (find the Scrapbook Bingo Challenge HERE) to card games, to board games I love them all, so for my second challenge I thought we'd adapt another of my favorite games to put a scrappy spin on it!  The game is called Would You Rather. For today's challenge create a layout, card or project using ONE of each from the following seven prompts:
WOULD YOU RATHER:
1) use a sketch on your creative project OR go it on your own with your own design?
2) use card stock as your background OR use a patterned background?
3) use stamps OR stickers on your project?
4) use squares/rectangles OR circles on your project?
5) use your own handwriting OR a typed sentiment or journaling on your project?
6) Used a punched border OR a washi tape border on your project?
7) Use enamel dots OR rhinestones on your project?

Here is my layout:

Here is the list of rathers I chose to use:
1) sketch- I used a Page Maps sketch by Becky Fleck from her PageMaps 2 book
2) cardstock background
3) Stickers- by Jillibean Soup
4) rectangles- patterned paper by Jillibean Soup
5) Typed journaling
6) Punched border
7) enamel dots

HERE ARE THE RULES FOR THE WOULD YOU RATHER CHALLENGE:
1) Feel free to use other items on your project in addition to the prompted items.
2) Link back to your blog post, make sure you mention the list of items you chose to use.
3) all projects must be newly created as of today for this challenge (no back linking)
4) no combining with other SNS challenges (i.e. our regular sketch challenges)
5) You must link back to SNS in your blog entry
6) only one entry per challenge

Our first ever Online Crop is in full swing!

As we promised a few days ago, we have another great challenge for you today to continue with our first ever Online Crop! If you missed our first challenge by Lisa, please click HERE to take you to play a great game of Bingo. Today's crop challenge is based on one of the oldest holiday baking traditions, fruit cake! Whether you have a love or hate relationship with fruitcake, we are sure to help you love it a little more with your crafting! Please create a brand new layout, card or altered item based on the Holiday Fruitcake Recipe Challenge below.

Holiday Fruitcake Recipe Challenge
(Pick 4 ingredients for your layout):

Red and green candied cherries – choose the color red or green
Candied pineapple – choose the color yellow or gold
Walnuts – use wood veneers or woodgrain papers, etc.
Raisins – use something sweet (the word Sweet, food related items or photos, etc.)
Sugar – use sprinkles of round embellishments in any color (brads, buttons, confetti, etc)
Eggs – use some form of ribbon as a binding agent
Vanilla – use any type of liquid medium (can be ice or snow related photos, spritz, paints, etc)
Flour - Use any white embellishment (clouds, flowers, doilies, snowflakes, etc.)

And here is my example:

I went simple and still used 5 of the ingredients! I used red cherries (color red), candied pineapple (color yellow), walnuts (wood venners), sugar (round confetti), and eggs (ribbon trim).  I can't wait to see what you create! :)

Rules of the Holiday Fruitcake Recipe Challenge:

1) Feel free to use other items on your layout as well. For instance, if you choose green as a color choice, other colors are welcome but please be sure to showcase the green as much as possible.
2) Also, in your link back to your blog post, make sure you mention the 4 ingredients you chose to use.

3) all projects must be newly created as of today for this challenge (no back linking)
4) no combining with other SNS challenges (i.e. our regular sketch challenges)
